THE RONDOUT WATERFRONT

Why restore this century-old Wurts Street Bridge, when the more modern 9W bridge is very near and adequately takes care of traffic needs? Why spend the money? Why not just tear it down? As Kingston's Mayor Steve Noble observed," The Wurts Street Bridge is the only access across the Rondout Creek that's accessible to walkers and Cyclists" While the 9W bridge whisks drivers past the Rondout, The Wurts Street Bridge, connects the Port Ewen and Esopus communities with Kingston and provides direct access to the Rondout neighborhoods.

Kingston is a city interlaced with nature. The tidal Rondout creek feeds into the mighty Hudson River. The Hudson Valley itself is known for its great beauty - The Catskill mountains - The atmospheric light...  It's a quality of life that has always brought people to the area. The bridge has been a lovely vantage point to appreciate the beauty of the area… a graceful, sweeping sculpture.

The Waterfront offers a wonderful respite for locals, boaters and tourists alike to enjoy the shops, restaurants, galleries and museums. This is a place of community and nature. Our project is an opportunity to show the world this jewel of a bridge and the Rondout waterfront it spans... By Spring of 2024, work will be finished and the Bridge will be accessible to pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles to once again visit this breathtaking Kingston icon.
