Photographer Judit German-Heins created evocative Tin-Type portraits as part of the Reher Center’s project:

Taking Root: Immigrant Stories of the Hudson Valley

The project features the personal and family stories of 36 narrators from 22 countries and 6 continents who have made a home in the Hudson Valley. Their experiences are brought to life through oral histories, tintype portraits, and the smells of beloved cuisines.

Reher Center Executive Director, Sarah Litvin at the Time Capsule Dedication Ceremony where she delivered a thumb drive with a description of the project and explaining the process of creating Tin Types. The thumb drive contains all the tin type images from the Taking Root: Immigrant Stories of the Hudson Valley project along with instruction for accessing the info on the thumb drive assuming the technology had become obsolete in 2123.

The Worry Doll Project

Reher Center’s board member Andrea Del Cid set up a workshop in the yard of the Hudson River Maritime Museum at the Time Capsule Event on July 17th and 18th, 2023. She welcomed visitors to cast their worry off by creating Guatemalan Worry Dolls. The idea is to put your worries into the making of the doll, freeing yourself from your personal stresses. As a compassionate message to the future, dolls were attached to the Community Mural and were included in the Time Capsule, protected in glass vials.
