THE TIME CAPSULE COMMUNITY CLAY DISC PROJECT

When ceramist and teacher Susan Whelan heard about the discovery of the old 1921 Time Capsule, she was excited to create a community clay project for the new Time Capsule. She knew clay discs would stand the test of time. The Time Capsule Clay Disc project was sponsored by Bailey’s Ceramic Supply and Equipment https://www.baileypottery.com at MAD’s Celebration of the Arts EXPO in 2022. Susan facilitated the workshop where participants of the EXPO decorated and carved messages on the ready-made clay discs. The discs were then fired, glazed and then fired again. Because of limited space in the Time Capsule itself, 6 discs were chosen at random by raffle number - pulled by Jan Unger and Molly Mason at the end of their wonderful musical performance at the Time Capsule Event at the Hudson River Maritime Museum on June 18th, 2023.

The discs are now on their journey through time in the Time Capsule - sealed in the Wurts Street Bridge cornerstone until 2123!

These are the 6 discs that were chosen by raffle drawing to put into the Time Capsule.

Below are all the discs that were made. Their images were included in a thumb drive placed in the Time Capsule.
